Breast Reconstruction is meant to restore a breast after disease, trauma or surgical removal for cancer (mastectomy). Also, some women have genetic or developmental problems that cause one or both breasts to never develop, resulting in noticeable body asymmetry. Today, there are many excellent procedures to address and correct a patient’s unique, individual breast deformity.
SKING SPARING MASTECTOMY: Depending upon the location of the tumor, breast cancer patients can usually (92% of the time) be reconstructed immediately at the time of mastectomy if “skin-sparing” techniques are employed. The resulting breast shape and contour with these techniques are excellent and far superior to the older methods of reconstruction. Restoration of near-normal breast aesthetics is certainly possible for most patients.
